Yes! We are doing it again! There will be a 2016 Mountain State Photographers’ Conference!
OFFICIAL! Our Conference date is Saturday, July 30, 2016. Our Conference location will be the Cedar Lakes Conference Center, in Ripley, WV. As a result of the terrific success of last year’s Conference, we expect this Conference to be even bigger and better! This Conference is about learning new and different methods of photography, and ways for enthusiastic, non-professional photographers to improve. In addition, it is an excellent opportunity for all of us to meet each other, and get to know the faces of the people we’ve met online.
Once again, we will kick off our Mountain State Photographers’ Conference with a “Conference Eve” event, sponsored by Canon USA! We are very pleased to announce…. Adam Jones, a Canon “Explorer of Light,” will be with us on Friday evening, July 29, 2016 and his program will begin at 6:30pm.
Adam teaches photography workshops around the world helping students reach their full potential in the exciting world of digital photography. Considered to be one of the elite photographers in the world, Adam is proud to be sponsored by Canon as an “Explorer of Light.” He has taught photography for Canon, Popular Photography & Imaging, Maine Photographic Workshops, Rocky Mountain School of Photography, Great American Photography Workshops and Joe Van Os Photo Safaris. Adam is noted for his enthusiastic down to earth approach and his ability to communicate effectively with all skill levels.
Our “Conference Eve” event is an additional activity available to all who register for our Photographers’ Conference. This will be a free event, and is also open to the public, especially students. Learn more about Adam and his work at his website, www.adamjonesphoto.com .
The Charleston Camera Club is also very pleased to announce that we will be welcoming Jim Clark as our Featured Speaker for our 2016 Conference! For forty years Jim Clark has explored the natural world through his camera. Along with his writing, speaking and teaching, Jim has inspired and motivated others to photograph nature. A naturalist first and foremost, Jim believes the more you know your subject, the more your photography will stand out. These days, Jim has focused his efforts in helping others improve their skills in photography and increasing their appreciation for nature.
A native son of West Virginia, Jim received a BS in Wildlife Biology from Tennessee Technological University and a MS in Wildlife Biology from WVU. He spent nearly 30 years as a wildlife biologist, most of that time with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Jim has also served as a faculty member for West Virginia University, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, and the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Since 2010, Jim has been the nature photography instructor the Chincoteague Bay Field Station in Virginia. A contributing editor for Outdoor Photographer Magazine since 2005, Jim also writes a monthly column – Nature’s View – for the North American Nature Photography Association’s e-newsletter. From 2005-2015, Jim was photographer in residence at the Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve near his home in Virginia.
Jim will speak on “Life Through the Lens: Notes from the Field, Lessons from the Heart.” Jim will also be teaching one of our classes, concentrating on nature photography, “Getting it Right in the Field: Twenty-five Field Techniques for Elevating your Nature Photography.”
In addition to these fine speakers, we will also have several photographers from around the Mountain State (and nearby), who will bring their experience and talent to you in the classrooms. Please watch for our full class schedule on this website soon.
You will be able to select the classes YOU want! The Instructors from whom YOU want to learn! Once again, we are working to keep the registration fee as low as possible for this event. The price of this full-day Conference is $70. Discounted lodging rates at Cedar Lakes Conference Center is also available by mentioning the Charleston Camera Club.
So, mark your calendars and shake those piggy banks. We want to see YOU at Cedar Lakes for the Mountain State Photographers’ Conference 2.0 on July 30!
