Mountain State Photographers Conference – August 1, 2015



The Charleston Camera Club is pleased to host the first conference Screen Shot 2015-01-12 at 10.18.20 AMfor non-professional photographers in West Virginia. Our goal is to bring these photographers together and offer content that will appeal to many interests and specialties. Whether you focus your attention on landscapes, macro, portraiture, editorial, nature, wildlife, sports or general photography, we aim to provide opportunities to learn and improve.As a special “Conference Eve” activity, we are extremely pleased to welcome Rick Sammon, the “Godfather of Photography!” Rick Sammon is an award-winning Canon Explorer of Light, and divides his time between creating images, leading photo workshops, and making personal appearances.Rick started his professional photography career as an underwater photographer, producing six underwater books and leading scuba diving expeditions to the seven seas. He easily transitioned into travel, landscape, wildlife, cultural and nature photography.Rick’s images, from his travels to more than 100 countries, have been published in numerous newspapers and magazines, and have been featured in his 36 books, including the popular Rick Sammon’s Exploring the Light, and 11 apps, including Rick Sammon’s 24/7 Photo Buffet. Rick’s website is ricksammon.comOur “Conference Eve” with Rick Sammon will be on Friday evening, July 31, 2015, and will begin at 6:30pm. Our location is the Assembly Hall at Cedar Lakes Conference Center at 82 FFA Drive in Ripley, West Virginia. The “Conference Eve” is a free event, and will be a kick-off to our Mountain State Photographers Conference, which will begin the following morning. Our ADMISSION FEE will be $65.00. Breakfast and lunch, along with all activities, are included in your admission fee.

Our General Session will be open for all attendees, and our featured guest speakers will be nature photographers Ed Rehbein and Randall Sanger!Screen Shot 2015-01-12 at 10.19.46 AMEd Rehbein is a photographer and writer, focused on sharing with others the beauty of nature in West Virginia. In the past seven years, he has published one book and more than 40 magazine articles about the outdoor wonders of West Virginia.

With Randall Sanger, he recently coauthored an award-winning book of photography called “West Virginia Waterfalls: The New River Gorge,” published by Headline Books. His photography is exhibited at Tamarack in Beckley, WV, and appears in “Wonderful West Virginia” magazine. Online, his work can be found at his website, and on Facebook at Ed Rehbein Photography.

He says, “I have long been fascinated and captivated by waterfalls, and I’m most passionate about locating and photographing the numerous waterfalls that are within the realm of the New River Gorge and the Potomac Highlands.”

Randall is a juried fine arts photographer at Tamarack – The Best of West Virginia, located in Beckley. His work has appeared in the Juried Art Show: The Best of West Virginia 2010, Dickerson Fine Arts Gallery, Tamarack. His work is also in private and corporate collections and has been used for marketing and corporate recruitment. Visit Randall’s website here.
